This book got me in the mood for the Winter Olympics this year. The suspense aspect of the plot was interesting, and kept me engaged. I felt like the antagonist in the story was pretty inept though. There were at least 4 attempts on Nick's life in a 48 hour time period, none of which were successful. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad Nick lived, it just seems pretty funny to me. Anyway, likeable characters, an intriguing plot, and a sweet romance.
Treacherous Slopes was a great book to cuddle up with on a cold winter night. She is at t Nick Walsh, champion ski jumper aerial freestyle skier is participating in a competition that is a precursor to the upcoming Winter Olympic Games.
She is at the competition to do a tv news story on Nick which will really help boost her career, from being a production assistant to being an on-air tv reporter. Nick, at first, isn't thrilled with the idea. He dislikes reporters and doesn't trust them. When Cody died the press tried to ruin his good name with suspicions that he was using drugs.
But after being with Julie he sees she's an honest person and he knows he can trust her. But he also begins to worry that, by being with him, her life could be in danger too. This was a fun, fast-paced read. I liked the storyline with the skiing competition and the setting in Bend, Oregon. I liked Julie and how she tried to help Nick find the answers to who was trying to hurt him. She also encouraged him to get back with his estranged family. I also liked Nick. He was a good hero. He was still broken up over his brother's death and blamed himself for the accident.
There were some interesting secondary characters--like ski groupie Kitty, who was hounding Nick and following him from competition to competition. I liked the setting and that the main character was an athlete. The romance was sweet, mainly because the characters knew each other growing up and this was kind of their "second chance". The villain was not a surprise, as I saw it coming, but it was still good. All in all, a good read. It wasn't that gripping of a story, but I did still like the book.
