Billy really appears to idolize Chip, but that quickly changes. Chip always felt he was physically fit as he always visits the gym first thing in the morning. On this one morning after gym, he is at the Chelsea Market where his television show is being broadcast live. Trying to hold back a loud, obnoxious sneeze, he is instantly struck with a stroke and rushed to a hospital. Tests reflect a blood clot is blocking a blood vessel in his brain causing speech and movement problems.
Arthur Wooten's Shorts: Stroke Of Luck: a short story & The "Dear Henry" Letters
Billy visits him once in the hospital, then never again. His show manager, Paul, visits him a couple times, and disappears. No one else visits which causes him very deep depression. However, there is one man who has a way of lifting his spirits with a wicked sense of humor.
He is 53 years old Allie who is a physical therapist. It is amazing when two kindred souls find each other A very tender, moving story. On to the "Dear Henry Letters" which Author Arthur Wooten published in a London Magazine as an advice columnist addressing courtship challenges in the 21st century. His letters address gay sex, love, and dating, with a humorous twist. Each letter is hilarious and I found myself laughing out loud as I read them. Imagine discovering a lover having a fetish about your dusty leather tasseled loafers.

But life can be quite inconvenient sometimes when in the blink of an eye it pulls the rug right out from under Chip forcing him to re-evaluate himself, his priorities and the people in his life. When we first meet Chip he is quite self-absorbed, by his own admission has a bevy of boys and is singularly focused on his career. It falls to his occupational therapist Allie to not only help him get back on his feet but also to show Chip the truly important things in life. Wooten was a humourist between March and April , and at the request of his publishers who wanted the author to write about gay sex, love, dating and fetishes.

However, The "Dear Henry" Letters are the stars of this short piece! I couldn't stop laughing while reading most of Arthur Wooten's short essays in letter form. In , Mr. Wooten was asked by London magazine reFRESH to write a column addressing gay sex, love, dating, and fetishes, sort of an a 4. From through Mr. Wooten quite creatively addressed all those issues by addressing the column to his fictional lover Henry in The "Dear Henry" Letters.
In the letters he attempts to break up their relationship for all sorts of reasons, mainly indiscretions committed by his fictional lover. Throughout the two years he always finds a reason to go back to Henry, but of course there's also always a reason to break up again. The letters address all types of issues mentioned above, but because Mr. Wooten is a humorist the result is a hilarious, and at times embarrassing, collection from beginning to end! This short piece is worth buying, reading and re-reading. Thanks to Indigene for the recommendation. Mar 12, David Hallman rated it it was amazing.
It is not easy to write humor well. Wooten knows how. Rather, his comedy acts as a light veneer over a poignancy from which I always take away some deeply-felt and finely-crafted lesson for life. Keep them coming, Mr. Feb 20, Jenn Booksessed added it.

I really liked Shorts. It is a collection of two short stories, though the second is a series of satirical letters. I think I polished off this collection in a little more than an hour.

I really liked that this collection had gay characters. The first story, A Stroke of Luck, was my favorite of the two. It was more somber, but I liked the message behind it. The Dear Henry Letters were very funny and each one made me laugh. I like when short story collections offer a mix. This falls into the category. I know I would read more from this author.
Mar 05, Gregory Allen rated it it was amazing. How Arthur Wooten has not been swept up by Hollywood to write for them is beyond me. I've read all of what Wooten has written and if you haven't, you will be buying up all of his books after reading Shorts. Wooten calls them "shorts" - I call them "appetizers" leaving me wanting more in this delicious meal! Arthur Wooten's Shorts like the clothing it recalls covers just enough to let your mind wander, but reveals much in very few masterfully written pages!

Henry is definitely a character of one kind. Not to mention being in a relationship with him, I bet being friends with him is already like sitting on a rollercoaster.
